3D renderings and visualizations have given new look to the entire architectural acumen. Architects and real estate developers make use of 3D renderings to showcase their ideas to their clients and the third parties.

3D architectural rendering is the art of creating three dimensional images or animations that epitomizes the attributes of the proposed architectural designs.  The effect of the renderings is such that the entire concept and the base of the project is understood easily and perfectly.

In other words 3D rendering is the computer graphics process of automatically converting 3D wire frame models into 2D images with 3D photorealistic effects or non photorealistic rendering on a computer.

1. Collect the references: Download any photograph from the internet showing scenes of what is required to be created. Study another artist work to see that the work that is undertaken is not in violation of copyright law. Analyze the scene on many aspects and communicate with the client about the images and what is that needs to be changed or incorporated. Such communication will aid the architect to weave the design in tune to the needs and requirements of the clients.

2. Optimize the model: Improving the modeling will aid in rendering more lively looking scenes. Weave a thicker geometry in the architecture instead of using infinitely thin surfaces to give a more realistic view. Say for e.g. walls of the real houses have thickness and this is expected from the walls of rendering. Never go for pruning unneeded models out of shot and never go by pruning out models or surfaces that could contribute to shadows, reflections or global illumination.

3. Go for natural shades and material colors: Never use surface colors that are so saturated that any of the individual color channels drops to zero. Always avoid unrealistic response by not making the surface colors too saturated. Thumb rule states to keep most of red, green and blue values on surfaces roughly between 0.2 and 0.8.

4. Take care of spill light: This is one of the lights that are more often missed from 3D renderings. It is just a light coming from same direction or the position as the key. It is advisable to aim the spill light aimed at the same direction as the sunlight but set it to have much softer shadows, so that it spills out beyond the sunbeam.

5. Divide up the space: In order to get more engaging lighting, try to divide up the 3D scene into different areas that each have different qualities of light. This one can do by putting more light near the camera. The audience should experience 3D space.

6. Enrich the scene with extra bounce colors: Selecting right place for the extra bounce and choosing good colors for the extra light will make the rendering look more natural and engaging.

7. Go for linear work flow: A linear work flow is an approach to the entire process of preparing texture maps, choosing surface colors, lighting, rendering and compositing that allows all the software calculations to maintain a direct uniform relationship between digital color values and actual light intensities.
